MPG: Mobile Performance Group is a collective of new media artists interested in finding new ways to present art outside of traditional venues. MPG disseminates their work by using automobiles, video projection, cell phones, FM transmission, wireless hotspots, and any other technologies that allow artist to engage the public. The Group was founded by Matt Roberts from Stetson University’s Digital Arts program.
While with MPG I developed a cell phone text messaging gateway that connected audience members cell phones with our projection systems. After a text message was sent it would be projected one word at a time on top of our video that was projected on walls, dancers, and inflatables. The software I used to develop this gateway is Max/Msp. I have also worked on performing with visuals in conjunction with the audio aspect.
In terms of promotion I created a ringtone distribution system for fans to download music samples to their cell phones. I’ve also worked on putting together a CD and DVD of original material available on the iTunes Music Store.
Most recent performances of MPG include the North West Electronic Arts and Music Organization festival in San Diego and the Fountain Art Fair during Art Basel in Miami.
